When We Need It, Wheres The Electric Car?

I don't know if anyone has seen the documentary "Who killed the electric car?", but its a very enlightening, awakening, film. Even though it came out in about 2003 i bring it up now because, now more than ever the population at large is in need of the electric car. I think this hybrid car phenomenon is simply a pacifier to silence are crying for more efficient cars. What separates us from an Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, or a Nigeria, we are all countries that are seemingly frozen in technological time under the vice of black gold. I think we will be lucky if we ever see the hydrogen fuel cell or affordable electric car. I won't deny Ronald Reagan presidency accomplished a lot at the time however one must admit the fact that the long term ramifications of Reagan removing all of Jimmy Carter's attempts toward releasing America from the ball and chain that is foreign oil including his energy conservation and alternative fuels. He took off all the solar panels off the white house because I'm sure he didn't want have any new fangled contraptions that he didn't understand on the white house. So where do we go from here, when GM is still making Hummers and Americans are just now realizing SUV's may look "cool" but $100 for gas is not. I think if more Americans visited other countries they would realize we are the only people on the planet who drives SUV besides the poor countries we sell them too. SUV's the embodiment of most of America's problems in the form of a car. How do you teach a whole nation to understand what global perspective is in a matter of years before it self destructs?
